MUMBAI: Was it a storm in the tea cup or was it the result of extra caution by some Anti-Corruption Unit officials employed by the BCCI?

One may never get to know that but the International Cricket Council says it never stopped Shah Rukh Khan from entering his dug-out at the Eden Gardens on Sunday night. Much as King Khan may say that he was prevented to meet his own team, the ICC says its representatives were not there in Kolkata all.

“The ICC has nothing to do with the IPL and our Anti-Corruption Unit members were not present at the Eden,” an ICC spokesman from Dubai told DNA. He went on to add that whether or not Shah Rukh enters his team’s dug-out is not a matter of ICC’s concern. “It is up to the BCCI and its franchisees,” the spokesman said.

One, however, learns that the Bollywood actor was stopped by the ACU members engaged by the BCCI. “The reported incident has nothing to do with the ICC as IPL is a domestic tournament which is being held under the rules and regulations of the BCCI,” the ICC spokesman added.

Meanwhile, the IPL has said it has created fresh guidelines to allow the owners to enter the team dressing rooms and dug-outs. IPL chairman Lalit Modi said an all-area accreditation badge to one owner of each franchisee will be issued. “The team owners have the right to be with the team at all times. They are very much part of the team’s  strategies,” he added.

Modi, however, defended the decision to stop the Bollywood star from entering his team’s dug-out. “Suitable measures will be taken to ensure such that incidents are not repeated. The IPL is conducted as per the rules and regulations of the ICC whose officials were just doing their job,” Modi said.

According to Modi, badges have already been provided to Preity Zinta and Vijay Mallya. He also revealed that each team would get four visitor passes with the condition that the holder of that badge, one at a time, can sit with the team members during the match for a maximum of 15 minutes. “After the usage (of the temporary badge) it must be returned to the manager who has issued it,” he said.

Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Niranajn Shah said Shah Rukh has to abide by the ICC rules. “He should take permission from IPL’s anti-corruption officer before entering his team’s dressing room,” Shah said.
