KOLKATA: Fancy this. A skeleton clatters in, balancing the cup of tea you have ordered on its bony fingers, deposits it on your table and stages an equally noisy walkout!

Ghost-busters are advised to take it in the right spirit, faint-hearted should think the spectre-cle is just an optical illusion! If anyone screams and runs for cover, they do so at the peril of being dubbed a spoilsport.

Kolkata is on its way to becoming home to “the world’s first spooky restaurant” — a project by master magician PC Sorcar Junior.

Sorcar is unwilling to rip off the veil of secrecy the entire project is shrouded in. But DNA learnt it will be a world where some of the customers themselves will be residents of the world beyond!

“So, don’t always trust the person sitting next to you,” warns Sorcar with a wink. “And you can’t take God’s name,” he adds with a straight face.

Though plans are fluid, the ghosts may do the disappearing act every 40 minutes to keep people on the edge of their seats.

“The aim is to provide customers with a spooky experience, food is secondary,” Sorcar says, adding, “I will try and change the storyline as often as possible.”

“The entire concept will be based on science and virtual reality,” says the magician. “It’s an experimental project and I will try to maintain the psychological balance in the restaurant with enough emergency exits.

“Customers will be briefed before-hand that the experience would be based on science and pure fun.”

Stunts are under conceptualisation and the sorcerer is busy taking expert help.’

“Imagine what would happen if the carpenter gets to know that the table he is carving would walk away on its four wooden legs… he would run away, scared out of his wits. So, I can’t divulge my plans,” laughs the magician.

The menu is still under wraps and the restaurant is not likely to be ready before the next one year. Sorcar is aiming for a small set-up as “it would be difficult to sustain the right atmosphere”.

He has been approached by several overseas establishments, but he is determined not to part with his secret.
