NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), upbeat after the victory in Karnataka, is set to discuss the roadmap for the forthcoming assembly and Lok Sabha elections at its national executive here starting June 1.
"The party executive will plan out the strategy for the forthcoming vidhan sabha and Lok Sabha elections," BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters on Thursday.
The national executive will be held here June 1 and 2.
The win in the Karnataka assembly elections, results of which were announced on Sunday, has come as a further boost to the party after the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh victories in December.
BJP leaders are optimistic the party will retain power in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh where polls are due by November. They have declared that BJP will wrest Delhi, which also goes to polls within a year, from the Congress.
"The party is likely to follow the now successful plan of projecting a chief ministerial candidate during campaigning in these state elections," a party leader said.
The executive meet will also discuss the Gujjar community's agitation demanding Scheduled Tribe status in Rajasthan as well as the May 13 serial blasts in that BJP-ruled state in which at least 61 people were killed.
Naqvi said the meeting will also focus on other important issues like threats to internal security and unprecedented price rise.
"BJP will take a decision in the meeting on starting an all-India agitation on the anti-people policies of the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government," he said.
"We are all-set for nation-building and to carry on the winning streak," Naqvi said.
Other political developments in the country and events in the neighbouring countries will also be discussed, he said.
"The UPA's foreign policies have dented the country's reputation," he said.
After External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee's visit to Pakistan earlier this month, the BJP had criticised him for not responding to the Pakistani foreign minister's suggestion that the two countries go back to the UN resolution, which suggests plebiscite, on Kashmir.
Party president Rajnath Singh will preside over the meetings June 1 while senior leader and prime ministerial candidate L.K. Advani will head the proceedings the next day.
More than 200 members of the national executive will attend the meet. Twelve chief ministers from states where BJP or its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners are in power will also participate in it.
The venue of the national executive was shifted from Jaipur to Delhi after the May 13 serial blasts.
