Susayraj tells Crime Branch that it was Grover, who had first brandished the knife at Matthew

“It was Neeraj Grover who first brought out the knife from my kitchen, threatening Jerome Matthew with it,” Maria Monica Susayraj, 27, told Crime Branch as she broke down and confessed that her fiancé, Matthew, had murdered the 27-year-old creative director of Synergie Adlabs in front of her.

Crime Branch on Thursday brought in Matthew from Kochi. He was produced at Borivili metropolitan magistrate’s court, and was remanded in police custody till May 29. The case has been handed over to Malad police for further investigations.

According to a Crime Branch officer, who refused to be named, Susayraj said that when Matthew came to her Malad home on the morning of May 7, he saw Grover emerging from the bedroom. He flew to rage and confronted Grover.

“When their arguments crossed all limits, Grover went to the kitchen and came out with a knife, brandishing it at Matthew. Being a Navy lieutenant, Matthew easily overpowered Grover. Twisting his hand, he thrust the knife into Grover’s ribcage. Blood gushed out of the wound, splashing against the near wall. Soon after, Grover was dead,” Susayraj said.

She told Crime Branch that to cover up the crime, Matthew asked her to purchase two sports bags, an air freshner, window drapes and bedsheets from the market. “Matthew told me that we needed to hide away the bloodstained clothes,” said Susayraj.

“Pressing the knife at my neck, he warned me that if I tried to run away, he would kill himself in my room, creating more trouble for me.

“I went to the nearby Hypercity mall and did the shopping. After I returned, Matthew carried the body to the kitchen and chopped it into several pieces, and dumped those in the bags I had bought, along with the bloodstained clothes, bedsheet and window drapes. We also painted the wall to hide the blood stains.”

The couple then lent a car from a friend of Susayraj, dumped the bags in its boot and drove to Manor - an isolated place in rural Thane. There, in a secluded area, they set the bags on fire.
