Explosives found in Delhi after arrest of Jaipur blast suspect

NEW DELHI: Following the arrest of a man suspected to be involved in the Jaipur serial blasts, the police have found sophisticated explosives in the early hours of Thursday, buried in a Delhi neighbourhood.

The police said Mohammed Salim was held in Chelmsford Road at the heart of New Delhi at about 8.30 p.m. Wednesday. He had come to the capital from Kolkata earlier in the day. The police alleged he was a suspect in the May 13 Jaipur terror attack that killed at least 61 people and wounded 216.

In the early hours of Thursday, Salim led investigators to a buried cache in D block of Janakpuri, west Delhi, where the police claimed to have found 3.1 kg of the chemical explosive RDX, five detonators and one timer device.

According to a police official, terrorists were planning to use the explosives to carry out terror attacks in the capital.

Detained on the basis of intelligence inputs, Salim is said to belong to the Bangladesh-based terror outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI). Investigating agencies suspect the role of the HuJI in the Jaipur blasts.
