For some students, the ICSE Std X results that were declared on Tuesday hardly mattered. This bunch of students has already secured admissions in international and ISC (Indian Secondary Certificate) schools.

The international schools in the city had completed their admission process before the ICSE results were declared. Niranjan Dave, father of Niyati from Jamnabai Narsee School, got her admitted for the IB curriculum in the same school.

Dave said, “In mainstream college education, if you have chosen the science or commerce stream, you have to compromise on learning the humanities. But with the international curriculum, you can pick and choose what you like. That was why we wanted Niyati to go for the IB curriculum. But shining in whatever you do is important, so the ICSE result is also important.”

Another student from the same school said, “Though I have scored 90 per cent, we are at least not bothered about the usual admission procedures in other junior colleges. We are not worried about our aptitude inclination for admissions.”

Rajni Nair, another student, had already secured admission at the Bangalore International School and was vacationing in the southern city. “She will directly join her school after the vacations,” her friend said.

Aditi Chaudhary, a student from Juhu, was also enjoying an extended vacation. She had taken admission in the Ecole Mondiale World School for its IB programme, the classes for which begin only in mid-August.

Aditi said, “I plan to do fashion technology in future and hence I did not wish to go for the routine streams. The interntaional curriculum will definitely give us an edge over the others and also help in building confidence.”

Chaudhary agreed that the ICSE scores did not matter now. But “they will be taken into consideration when I pass out from Std XII,” she said. For the record, she scored 94 per cent.

Admission to the ISC system is given on the basis of preliminary examination marks, whereas IB schools admit students after an entrance test and an interview.
