BHOPAL: BJP will give party tickets in the coming assembly polls only to those candidates whose image and work among the people is good and who have fair chances of winning from the seat.

"The party will give tickets to the winning candidates and whose image and work in the constituency is good," BJP national general secretary, Thavarchand Gehlot told reporters here on Monday.

To a question, he said that the party from the days of Jansangh has done a lot for SC/ST persons in the country and that was the main reason behind his long successful inning in the party in different positions.

When asked why the BJP has not honoured any SC/ST person with the post of Chief Minister, he said that these decisions are normally taken by the party legislators.

He also said that the party central leaders have already declared that the coming assembly polls will be contested by the party under the leadership of the present Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The Lok Sabha MP from Shajapur reserved constituency of Madhya Pradesh has arrived here to take part in the party meeting which has decided to protest the proposed decision of the Centre to extend benefits of reservation to religiously converted people.

He said that the move will affect people of the SC/ST category as in any case the government cannot extend the reservation beyond the 50 per cent limit.
