CHANDIGARH: The two emissaries of the Dalai Lama, Kasur Lodi Gyaltsen Gyari and Kelsang Gyaltsen, who had talks with the Chinese delegation early this week in Shenzhen, returned contended with the outcome of their deliberations but admitted that there “were strong and  divergent views on the nature as well as causes of the recent tragic events in Tibet”.

The emissaries briefed the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala about their sixth round of dialogue with the Chinese team, and said that the next round of talks was expected to take place shortly.

Gyari said in a statement, “We rejected categorically the accusation made against His Holiness the Dalai Lama of instigating the demonstrations and unrest in Tibet. Instead, we made it clear that the events in Tibet are the inescapable consequences of wrong policies of the authorities towards the Tibetans, which goes back several decades.”

The team rejected the Chinese observation that the Dalai Lama was in any way trying to sabotage  the Olympics in Beijing. “On the contrary, we made it clear that the Dalai Lama has consistently and unambiguously supported the Olympic games right from the beginning,” said Gyari  disassociating the Dalai Lama completely from the sporadic Tibetan protests that happened the world over in the past few weeks.
