NEW DELHI: Home to India’s highest authority, Rashtrapati Bhavan has come under the scanner for the wrong reasons after criminal investigations were initiated against an employee for making casteist remarks against his colleague.

Though the incident happened almost four years ago and the matter came to light just a few days back, the city court has decided to take it upon itself to investigate the case.

The court intervened and directed the local police to register a case and investigate the allegations thoroughly.

On the intervention of the court, a case has been registered at Chanakyapuri police station. The court had directed the police to register a case under the SC/ST Act and carry out investigations against Nakku Ram Yadav, the head gardener, for making casteist remarks against Ramjit on September 5, 2004.

The victim, Ramjit, also mentioned in his complaint that he was humiliated and assaulted by Yadav, Ram Naval, Namwar and Ram Charan Singh.

The complainant mentioned in his application that it was the not the first time that casteist  remarks were made by the four accused and he was being  targeted for a long time.

“After going through the allegations of the complainant as made in the FIR and the statements recorded by the police, I am of the opinion that a prima facie case for offence of the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities Act), 1989, is made out against accused Yadav,” judge Rajneesh Kumar Gupta observed after the complaint was filed.

Yadav’s lawyer says his client is being falsely implicated in the case. “We are waiting for the police to file their investigation report and charge-sheet. We are confident that we will be able to defend ourselves in court,” said the lawyer.
