NEW DELHI: The six-day 19th CPI(M) congress that concluded in Coimbatore last week has failed to resolve the party’s dilemma over dialectics even as ideologue and hardliner party general secretary Prakash Karat appears to have acquired hues of a “revisionist”.

The triennial brainstorming session, which dissected the party’s strength and weaknesses, losses and gains in last three years, has not been able to address the dichotomy facing the party in the fast changing global scenario — how to synchronise running governments with leading agitations.

The political and organisational report was merely a reiteration of the pious statements of the 18th congress. This was the first congress Karat presided over away from the looming shadows of party veterans Jyoti Basu and Harkishan Singh Surjeet.“The politburo has not been able to guide the all-India mass fronts to make appropriate arrangements to give special attention to needs of priority states. This should be done.

The 18th congress’ directive to recruit sufficient cadre was not implemented in true spirit,” said the organisational report.
