NEW DELHI: BJP on Thursday joined issue with Congress for laying the blame for price rise on states and said that inflation took place due to the "ill-conceived" policies and "indifferent" attitude of the Central Government.

"The comment of Congress party that states are equally responsible for price rise is not only laughable but shows the height of political bankruptcy," BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said here.

He wondered whether the Congress was suggesting that there is no price rise in states ruled by it like Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi.

"Price rise is the result of ill-conceived policies and indifferent attitude of the central government. It shows there is complete lack of systematic response," he said here.

Prasad was reacting to Congress leader Digvijay Singh's comments blaming states for failing to act against hoarders and black-marketeers to check price rise.

The BJP spokesperson also took a dig at the Government, saying a curious blame-game was on between ministers on the issue of price rise. He said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was not able to control his cabinet.

"The Commerce Minister is blaming the Food Minister. The Railway Minister is blaming the Steel and Fertilisers Minister. This shows lack of cohesion in the Cabinet and Government," he alleged.

He said the country is tired of "core committees, super committees, sub committees and working committees set up by the government to check price rise. The people would like to know what is happening on the ground."
