MUMBAI: Following an order from the Bombay High Court, the Thane rural police have filed a criminal complaint against Chhindwara jail authorities for letting an undertrial use cell phone from within the jail,

Thane police had moved the High Court last month for obtaining custody of Papdya alias Rahul Kale, who is currently lodged in Chhindwara Central Prison in Madhya Pradesh, in connection with several robberies in the district.

During the hearing on application for his custody before Justice D G Karnik, Additional public prosecutor Kumar Saste said that Kale was controlling his gang sitting inside the jail.

Last year in August, police had arrested four members of his gang in Thane. His wife Rekha, who too is in custody, had told the police that her husband used to give her instructions on cell phone.

Police verified her statement by tracing the calls of her cellphone and the calls originated from Chhindwara area.

On learning this, Justice D G Karnik directed that offence may be registered against concerned officer of Chhindwara jail.

Accordingly, Saste informed the court that an FIR has been lodged in Chhindwara police station.
