NEW DELHI: The Centre on Wednesday said no definite timeframe can be specified for grant of full statehood to Delhi.
"The grant of statehood to Delhi has raised complicated issues which are yet to be resolved. No definite timeframe can be specified in this," Minister of State for Home Affairs Manikrao H Gavit said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.
Local politicians have been demanding complete statehood for Delhi, complaining that multiplicity of authorities has been hampering developmental work in the capital.
Proposals have been made for bringing the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Delhi Development Authority that are currently under the purview of union ministries of Home and Urban Development respectively, under the Delhi government.
Security and land, two important subjects, are not under Delhi Government and fall under the jurisdiction of the Centre.
