MUMBAI: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister RR Patil is still closeted with top police and state officials at Mantralaya in a meeting to decide the future course of action following the violence in the past 10 days by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists.

Patil, who also holds the Home portfolio, is chairing the meeting which is being attended by Director General of Police Dr PS Pasricha, city Commissioner of Police DN Jadhav and top government officials.

Patil cut short his Latur tour and rushed back to Mumbai to review the law and order situation.

Mumbai police began rounding up Raj's supporters since Tuesday night anticipating trouble by MNS workers in the event of his arrest.

A police official said dozens of MNS workers have been locked up in various police stations across the metropolis.

In Pune, 50 MNS activists were arrested in connection with sporadic incidents of stone-pelting in the city, which damaged about forty buses, police said today.

The activists were apprehended late last night after they damaged the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal buses in reaction to the reports of anticipated arrest of the breakaway Shiv Sena group leader Raj Thackeray, they said.

The situation remained "under control" in Nasik with no fresh untoward incidents reported today, police said.

State-run buses were back on the streets after their service were suspended since yesterday in view of the violence, sources in state transport corporation said.

Seventeen buses were damaged and at least ten people, including drivers, were injured in stone-pelting by MNS activists on Tuesday.
