Police seem to have got Bombay High Court’s message loud and clear. The HC was told on Monday that Powai police were willing to withdraw their confidential report, which had stalled the passport renewal application of gutkha baron Jagdish Joshi’s daughter, Hemlata.

Last week, a confidential report was submitted to the court, stating that police had denied clearance to 25-year-old
Hemlata’s passport renewal application. The reason cited was that with Joshi having links with Dawood Ibrahim , “it was possible” for his daughter to have abetted in the alleged crimes.

HC said that a daughter should not be made to suffer for her father’s crime. It told the public prosecutor that it was unfair on the cops’ part to doubt Hemlata as a partner in crime without valid reasons.
