Talala girl has accused college principal of attempting rape

RAJKOT: Close on the heels of allegations by a Dalit girl studying at Patan PTC college that she was subjected to repeated gangrapes by six of the college professors, a girl from Una Taluka of Junagadh district has claimed that she was subjected to a similar treatment in October 2007.

The alleged victim Harsha (name changed), who was studying in Primary Teachers’ Training College in Bhacha village, is a resident of Talala Gir. The girl has accused her college principal of attempted rape. According to sources, on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2, Harsha was on the hostel terrace when Valji Rathod, principal, made sexual advances to her and forcefully embraced her.

When Harsha resisted, he threatened to kill her if she tells anyone about the incident. Harsukh Agravat, the girl’s father, told DNA, “The principal threatened to kill her and we had no option but to bring back home."

Harsha has lodged a complaint against Rathod at the Una police station. The principal was booked under section 354 for sexual abuse, but Rathod was released on bail and is unapproachable.

However, what is more shocking is institute’s role in the entire issue. The principal is still working with the college, however at a smaller post. Moreover, they have refused to let Harsha sit for the exams.  Speaking to DNA, Harsha said, “What else can a girl like me do when my own Guru tried to rape me? I managed to escape from there and decided to lodge a complaint against him."

“The institute has refused to let me sit for the exam as the authorities hold me responsible for maligning college’s reputation. We managed to pay the fees with great difficulty. Please see that they do not spoil my career," she said.
