Pune-based stud farm-owner and businessman Hasan Ali Khan is in yet another spot. Officials from the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Mumbai have approached the Worli police station and registered a complaint against Khan, alleging that he has procured at least three fake passports.
The complaint was registered on Saturday by officials from the passport office. According to the complaint, Khan procured fake passports from Hyderabad, Patna and Mumbai. “The passport officials claimed that Khan flew to London using the fake passport that was issued to him from Hyderabad,” said a police official from Worli police station, who did not wish to be named.
The officer further said that all three passports could be forged. “The passport officials have been informed and an enquiry is under way. Even the passport officials related to this (case) could come under the police scanner,” the officer said.
The complaint also alleges that according to the information available with the RPO, Khan recently has also made two separate applications for fresh passports from Chandigarh and Guwahati.
Confirming the development, senior police inspector of Worli Bharat Worlikar said that based on the complaints filed by officials of the RPO, the Worli police have charged Khan with cheating under the Indian penal code and section 12 of the Passport Act, which deals with cases where false information has been furnished to procure a passport. “Investigations in the case are in progress and it would be difficult for me to comment more on the issue,” Worlikar said.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) in an affidavit filed in the Bombay high court had stated that there was evidence to show that Khan was worth Rs 8 billion (Rs 32,000 crore).
