Two students die in freak accident

BERHAMPUR: At least two school students were killed when a concrete beam of the main gate of Tala Raisingh UP School fell on them.
  
Police said on Friday the incident occurred on Thursday while Kailash Chandra Nayak (14) and Mukesh Nayak (8) were playing along with eight other students near the school gate.
  
Mohana Police Station ASI Niranjan Patra has registered a case and sent the bodies for post mortem to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here on Friday morning.
  
Gajapati Collector D V Swamy has sanctioned Rs 10,000, while Mohana BDO Prasant Kumar Rath has given Rs 1,000 each to the bereaved  families.
  
The Village Education Committee (VEC) was entrusted with the construction of the 15 ft wide iron gate, the Mohana BDO said adding that investigation was on to ascertain the reason as why the concrete beam broke.
  
The gate was built two years ago and the concrete beam was built recently with the funds provided by the Sarva Sikhya Abhiyan.
  
The irate locals have demanded a thorough enquiry into the incident.
