US presidential hopeful Barack Obama won a glowing comparison to the late Democratic hero John F. Kennedy, in an endorsement for his campaign by the revered president's daughter.
WASHINGTON: Fancied Barack Obama has won a high-profile endorsement in the daughter of the former US President John F Kennedy, Caroline, who says the African American leader can inspire a new generation of US compatriots like her charismatic father.
"My reasons are patriotic, political and personal, and the three are intertwined," says the daughter of the popular leader who was assassinated in November 1963 in her in an Op-Ed piece titled 'A President Like My Father'.
"I have never had a president who inspired me the way people tell me that my father inspired them.... But for the first time, I believe, I have found the man who could be that president-not just for me but for a new generation of Americans," Kennedy said while supporting Obama in The New York Times.
She said that while it isn't that the other candidates are not experienced or knowledgeable, "but this year, that may not be enough. We need a change in the leadership of this country just as we did in 1960."
Though the backing of a Kennedy may not carry too much of political weight, yet it is a major psychological boost to the Obama campaign as it now starts prepares for Super Duper Tuesday of February 5 when nearly two dozen states including the delegate-rich ones like Ohio,Illinois,New York and California are up for grabs.
Kennedy said she saw an "opportunity" in Obama who can make Americans "to believe in ourselves, to tie that belief to our highest ideals and imagine that together we can do great things".
Obama secured a much needed victory in south Carolina primary against rival Hillary Clinton.
