MUMBAI: The Indian cricket board congratulated Anil Kumble's team for beating Australia in the third Test in Sydney Saturday and said that it would felicitate the captain for taking his 600th wicket during the match.

"On behalf of the cricket loving people of India and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), I extend heartiest congratulations to Team India led by Anil Kumble for their emphatic win over Australia at Perth," BCCI president Sharad Pawar said here.

"It was a great team effort with each member contributing to the win; particularly the efforts of the young and inexperienced pace attack is laudable."

India won by 72 runs to reduce the deficit in the four-Test series to 1-2.

"During the Perth Test, Anil reached a personal milestone of 600 Test wickets to become only the third bowler in the history of Test cricket and the only Indian to do so," said Pawar.

"The BCCI is indeed very proud of Anil's achievement and it will felicitate him in a befitting manner after the return of the Indian team from Australia (in March)."

The fourth Test begins in Adelaide on Jan 24.
