ETAWAH: Samajwadi Party President Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday alleged that the recent firing on innocent students here was an indication that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati had lost her 'balance' following the BSP's defeat at the hands of the SP in the recent Ballia Lok Sabha bypoll.

Addressing a condolence meeting here to pay homage to a student Mukesh who died in the firing and Ranvijay Yadav who immolated himself in New Delhi, Yadav said Mayawati has lost her balance following the BSP's dismal performance in Ballia by election.

Yadav charged that the Etawah SSP who had ordered firing on innocent students was roaming about scot free while the IPS officer who had aimed a rifle at SP's state unit working president, Shivpal Singh Yadav earlier, has been rewarded with the post of Director General of Police (DGP).

Yadav recalled that during her rule in 2003, the Mayawati government had tried to encounter SP leaders branding them as Pakistanis.

Senior party leader Janeshwar Misra, who also spoke at the meeting, said that the government had been trying the patience of the SP leaders and exhorted the Congress to fight the BSP or else it would never be able to find its feet in Uttar Pradesh.

Party General Secretary, Amar Singh alleged that the state government was branding SP leaders and workers as 'goondas' and said that democracy was being put to test in the state.
