KANNUR: In yet another incident of violence involving school children, a 12th standard student here attacked his class mate with a knife but luckily the victim escaped with 'minor' injuries.

The incident took place at the NSS higher secondary school at Alacode near here after 19-year-old Mohammed Siraj attacked 17-year-old V P Sebastian inside the class room owing to enmity between the two, police said.
   
Sebastian sustained 'minor injury' close to his ear and was immediately provided first aid before the duo were taken to the police station,they said.

Siraj said he bought 'the long-sized knife' from a local shop this morning and attacked Sebastian with it after both quarrelled over some issue, police said.

The students, who were taken into custody, would be produced before a court at the nearby Taliparamba town on Tuesday, they said.
   
Earlier this month, a student of a government school of Satna in Madhya Pradesh was shot dead by a senior schoolmate. In December, 2007, a 14-year-old student was killed by two of his classmates in Gurgaon.
 
A third-year girl student of Visva Bharati University in Vishwa Bharati University in Santiniketan was shot dead at her hostel on January 6 by the driver of an-charge of Kolkata police with a stolen service revolver of a constable.
