A fresh war of dirty words erupts between Mayawati and her foes

LUCKNOW: The slapping of Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh’s brother Shivpal Yadav by a policeman and the subsequent wave of violence in protest against it only signify the politics of revenge and hate that dominate Uttar Pradesh.

A day after Bahujan Samaj Party’s chief minister  Mayawati issued a stern warning to Mulayam Singh Yadav, SP general secretary Amar Singh called her “baanjh” (infertile), insensitive and demonic.

He also said that Mayawati was plotting to get him, Mulayam, Shivpal and Akhilesh Yadav (Mulayam’s son)  “eliminated” with the help of UP’s director-general of police (DGP) Vikram Singh and additional DGP Brij Lal.

With Mulayam away in Sefai (Etawah), Amar Singh has taken charge and is hurling fire and brimstone. “She is only bothered about her security. Now she even wants SPG cover. What about the security of other people like us?” The state government, he said, had withdrawn the security cover from him, Shivpal and Akhilesh Yadav and downsized it for Mulayam..

“This is being done deliberately as Mayawati is plotting to get top SP leaders killed... if anything happens to any of us, only Mayawati is to be blamed for it,” he said.

But Mayawati says that SP’s “goondas” are out to get her. Senior state politicians feel this is perhaps the worst phase of UP politics.

“I have never heard such language… this is not the language of democracy and politics,” said senior BJP leader Lalji Tandon. “Whatever be the provocation  and whatever might be at stake in politics, you can’t stoop to such levels,” added senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari.

Mulayam’s son and MP Akhilesh Yadav said: “If we are getting brickbats, how can you expect us to reciprocate with bouquets? Samajwadis know how to pay aggressors in the same coin.”
