NEW DELHI: Aghast with the conduct of players and umpiring decisions coming in for sharp criticism in the Sydney Test, Indian tennis legend Vijay Amritraj said on Friday that every sportsperson is a professional and should play in the right spirit.

"(Umpiring) Decisions can be right, wrong or indifferent but that is not important. But what happened (in Sydney) was very sad," Amritraj said.

"The behaviour of the players are very important. At the end of the day it is a sport and players are professionals. And they need to play in the right spirit," he told a news channel.

The player-turned-commentator did not dwell on who was right or wrong in Sydney but said whatever happened was not good from the game (of cricket).

"At the end of the day, you are representing your country," he signed off.
