NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court (SC) has sought an explanation from the Centre as to whether the cabinet has already given its nod to the redrawing of parliamentary and assembly constituencies as recommended by the ex-SC judge Kuldip Singh-led Delimitation Commission.

The order was passed on a writ filed by Delhi Study Group’s Vijay Jolly, a BJP MLA, seeking implementation of the commission’s findings to streamline polls. Jolly’s counsel Arun Jaitley claimed the cabinet had already taken a decision on the commission’s recommendations last week but the government was not revealing it.

It is also learnt that the cabinet has sent the recommendations for the President’s assent. The judges asked additional solicitor general Gopal Subramanium to make the government’s stand clear on the issue, but he sought a month’s time.
