MELBOURNE: International cricket would be better off without technological innovations like Hawk-Eye, which is "not as accurate as it should be" and only adds to the pressure on an on-field umpire, feels Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds.

"There has been some great innovations in cricket in the past decade but I must admit there's one I'm not the biggest fan of - Hawk-Eye," wrote Symonds in his column for the 'Daily Telegraph'.

"Put simply, Hawk-Eye frustrates me. Considering the many conditions and variables of a pitch over five days, surely Hawk-Eye can't possibly tell every time where the ball is travelling, particularly on lbw shouts."

"The beauty of cricket is the human element of decision making. We've now got neutral umpiring in world cricket so the less of a role Hawk-Eye plays, the better," he said. Symonds said pitch conditions change during the course of a match and Hawk-eye cannot "work out where the ball is going to end up once the ball pitches" all the time.

"It's a technology I and the other guys in the Australian team find frustrating because we don't believe it's as accurate as it should be," he said.

Symonds said Hawk-Eye, at best, can be used as an educative tool for the viewers to explain the trajectory of the ball.

"I wouldn't say Hawk-Eye is a pointless tool because I can see value in it for viewers and it can be informative for young kids learning about bowling."

"But as a player I don't believe it's accurate enough to draw an absolute, deadset conclusion from -- especially when commentators are relying on it to make post-wicket analysis," he said.
