Narain Karthikeyan talks to Riddhi Doshi about living life in the fast lane and more

When he drives, others follow. Ask Narayan Karthikeyan about this and he says that winning the A1GP race is his best performance till date. Clearly, the man who’s been literally living on the fast lane for so many years now, is savouring his recent victory.

“I have been living in the fast lane for many years now. I started racing professionally more than 10 years ago. Winning the A1GP race in Zhuhai was one of the best wins of my career,” confesses Karthikeyan.

It was not a rollercoaster ride for Narayan all these years, his stuttering start at the F1 circuit and then cooling his heels on the benches, Narayan is widely rumoured to be ‘unfortunate’ kid on the circuit.

But try talking to him about these handicaps on the course and he tends to bypass them.

“The journey has been like a rollercoaster ride. Sometimes on its way up, sometimes on its way down, and other times it has just been round and around,” says the speedster.

But at the same breath, he admits that victory couldn’t have come at a better time for him and that too, when he is representing his country.

“The credit of my victory definitely goes to A1 team in India. They are a very hard working and dedicated bunch of professionals who have been working flat out for the past few months so that we can achieve victories like the one we did recently.”

He hastens to add, “Also, my family has been very supportive of my career ever since I can remember, so I have to attribute my success to their efforts as well.”

But motor sport is India is yet to catch on coupled with the fact that very few companies have come forward to sponsor the sport.

He says, “There has been a growing support for motor sports in India although it is not as widespread amongst the corporate world as we would like.”

He adds, “However I think the future of motorsport in India is very bright and I hope I am able to continue to contribute towards that success.”

Karthikeyan has earned a loyal female fan following but quiz him about it and the racing master doesn’t really tread the track.

But what about Bollywood and modelling? Would be mind taking a chance there considering the fact that he has already modelled for a lot of brands? The answer comes rather quickly, “My talents are restricted to the racetrack and not in front of a camera. I think I’ll stick to the track for now.”

Clearly this guy is clearly not interested in the perks that come with the package of winning an international sports competition but hold on, you know some more ads with Narain behind the wheels are definitely coming your way.
