School teacher gets five year RI for attempted rape

A government school teacher was sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment by a court here for attempting to rape a minor girl student.

SIRSA: A government school teacher was sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment by a court here for attempting to rape a minor girl student.
  
The court on Friday also imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000.00 and an additional one year term on the teacher Harbans Singh in default of payment of fine.
 
According to the prosecution, the victim's father had filed a complaint against JBT teacher Harbans Singh that on February 28, 2007 the accused called his 10-year-old daughter during school hours in a room under some pretext and made a bid to commit rape.
   
It was also alleged that the accused escaped after the victim raised an alarm.
   
A criminal case was registered against the teacher who was arrested later.
