AHMEDABAD: The political mud-slinging in Gujarat continued unabated on Wednesday with Chief Minister Narendra Modi attempting to belittle Prime Minister Manmohan Singh saying people in the state only knew about Congress president Sonia
Gandhi.

"Yesterday, our Prime Minister had come here. Yes, I am talking about Dr Manmohan Singh. But you don't know him. You only know Sonia Gandhi. So you should all know that we have a Prime Minister called Dr Manmohan Singh," Modi said at an election rally in Central Gujarat.

Singh was here on a day's visit to Ahmedabad during which he spoke of 'atmosphere of fear' in the state.

Last week, Singh told people of Gujarat that they were at the 'mercy of God if they opposed the Modi government.'

Modi countered Singh's taunts asking, "Isn't it better to be at the mercy of God than be at the mercy of Sonia Gandhi."
