AHMEDABAD: The Election Commission is yet to receive a complaint regarding chief minister Narendra Modi's admission about the murder of Sohrabuddin Sheikh during public meetings in Surat and Surendranagar on Tuesday.

This was disclosed by chief election commissioner (CEC) N Gopalaswami, who was in the city on Wednesday to review poll preparations for the first phase of assembly elections in south Gujarat region on December 11. "We cannot take action till we receive a complaint. If there is any complaint the district magistrate and returning officer will report to us and only after that we will say anything about the issue," the CEC said.

Gopalaswami held meetings with various political parties and the district administration during the day and also addressed a news meet. "We have taken several measures to stop bogus voting. Criminal complaints will be registered if anyone is caught casting a bogus vote. Female staff will also be deployed at each polling booth," he said.

"We have posted micro-observers and additional security staff. Candidates with criminal records will be tracked with video recording," he added. He added strict action will be taken if any party distributes voter slips having its identification on polling day. The candidate of particular seat would be prosecuted for violation of rule.
