MUMBAI: Thanks to the brilliant knocks by Manish Gupta (261) and Gulam Mohammad Sabir (168), Rizvi Springfield were cruising towards the semifinal of the Harris Shield inter-school cricket tournament, here on Tuesday.
The defending champions declared their innings at 587 for seven and took two quick wickets to leave their rivals Don Bosco struggling at 79 for two at stumps, on the second day at Bhora Cricket ground.
Meanwhile, another fine all-round performance by Pratik Gawli saw Swami Vivekanand (Borivli) in a strong position against Anjuman-I-Islam. Pratik scored 115 in his side’s total of 249 and the turned his offspinners effectively to capture four for 56 off 17.1 overs to help bowl out Anjuman for 160.
Virendra Pande scalped seven wickets to help IES New English, Bandra move inch closer towards victory against Smt MD Bhatia English, Ghatkopar at Azad Maidan.
The Ghatkopar school, who were all out for 69 in the first innings chasing a mammoth first innings total of 428 set up by IES and were were 69 for 8 at stumps in the second innings.
