BJP leaders to go to Delhi to shortlist candidates for polls

Senior BJP leaders of the state will go to Delhi this evening with a panel of names of candidates for the two-phased Assembly polls scheduled on December 11 and 16.

AHMEDABAD: Senior BJP leaders of the state, including Chief Minister Narendra Modi, will go to Delhi this evening with a panel of names of candidates for the two-phased Assembly polls scheduled on December 11 and 16.

"The Central Parliamentary Board of the party will then finalise candidates for Gujarat elections. Consultations by the board on the matter will begin in New Delhi from today evening," party sources said.

Apart from Modi, state unit BJP President Purshottam Rupala and General Secretary Bhiku Talsania will also go to New Delhi, said state party spokesman Vijay Rupani.

"The state parliamentary board had started the process of shortlisting of the candidates before Diwali and the process has continued for the last eight to ten days," he added.

"We have listened to more than 50,000 people and more than 4,000 ticket aspirants," he further said.

The last date of filing of nomination forms for the first phase of the elections in Saurashtra and Kutch and South Gujarat is November 22.
