LUCKNOW: Lawyers assaulted the three Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants in the Sessions Court premises while they were being taken by the police to be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate.

A large number of lawyers, who were present in the court premises, roughed up the militants, who had “confessed” to plotting to abduct Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, even as a few police personnel tried to protect them.

The militants were later taken to the court by the senior security officials accompanied by additional security personnel.

Earlier, the JeM militants Mohammad Abid alias Faate, Yusuf alias Faisal and Mirza Rashid Baig were produced before the upper civil judge from where they were taken to the CJM’s court for remand hearing.

The three militants had ‘confessed’ that they were planning to kidnap the young parliamentarian. The terrorists, all belonging to Pakistan were arrested from the Gudumba police station area in Lucknow early Friday and a large number of sophisticated arms and ammunition and RDX seized.

The official said the terrorists had been trained in camps in Bahawalpur for six months in carrying out the kidnapping by showing them footage and video clippings of public meetings and functions and movements of the VVIPs and had plans to exert international pressure for the release of their 42 associates, including Afzal Guru, Nasrulla Mansoor and Abu Jinder, lodged in various Indian jails.

The police said the terrorists had not set a time-frame for themselves and had planned to get menial jobs in a political party office to get acquainted with the environment and a VVIP and give a shape to their plan later.
