GTL snaps up Malaysia’s ADA for $25m

Expects to strengthen ties with telecom tech providers

MUMBAI: GTL Ltd, the Mumbai-based Rs 1,200 crore wireless telecommunications services provider, has acquired Malaysia-based network planning and optimisation firm ADA Cellworks for $25 million in cash.

The acquisition will strengthen the company’s relationship with telecom technology providers like Nokia Siemens Networks, Alcatel Lucent, Motorola, Ericsson and Huawei.

DNA Money, in its June 1 edition, had reported GTL was doing due diligence for four acquisitions in the Asia Pacific region and Europe and will seal the deals in the next two quarters with total deal size would be around Rs 1,000 crore.

The ADA Cellworks acquisition is being made through GTL’s global arm GTL International. The promoters of ADA Cellworks include Intel Capital, the venture capital arm of Intel Corporation, and the Malaysian government, through its arm Malaysian Venture Capital Management.

The company employs over 750 professionals with experience in network planning and optimisation on 2G, 2.5 G, 3G technologies.

Manoj Tirodkar, chairman and managing director, GTL Ltd, said: “With this acquisition, GTL have progressed further on its inorganic growth strategy and strengthened our presence in the high-value segments of network planning and optimisation.”

Sudheer Kuppam, managing director (India, Japan, Australasia and South-East Asia), Intel Capital, said: “As an early-stage investor in ADA Cellworks, we can see that our support helped positioned the company for success.”

“The synergies in the services offered will help us to serve a larger set of global customers in the emerging and developed markets, where GTL is an established player,” said Mirza Ahmad, CEO, ADA Cellworks.

GTL designs, deploys and manages the network infrastructure of telecom service providers, large enterprise and contact centres in India, Middle East, US, Europe, Asia Pacific and Africa.
