KOLKATA: Terming the violence in Nandigram as shocking, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani on Tuesday sought a discussion on the issue in the coming winter session of the Parliament.

"We believe while a discussion on the nuke deal is important, but no less important is a discussion on Nandigram and the plight of the farmers there," Advani told reporters at the N S C Bose International Airport here before leaving for Nandigram.

He said what has happened in Nandigram was shocking beyond words.

Advani, who led a NDA delegation, said that the CPI(M) might be obsessed with international issue and the nuke deal, but as far the nation was concerned "we saw how the CPI(M) government led by Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has nuked the farmers in Nandigram and nuked the government of India."

The entire country, he said, was very much concerned with what was going on in Nandigram.

Advani said that the NDA delegation has come here to go to Nandigram to see for themselves whether reports in the press regarding atrocities and violence there were in fact true.

The senior BJP leader also expressed surprise that no Central minister and the state chief minister has visited trouble-torn Nandigram.

Asked whether the NDA team would be able to visit Nandigram when even social activist Medha Patkar was not allowed to go there, Advani replied, "I hope we will be able to go to the spot."

"We will visit the hospital there, besides refugee camps and after that we will meet Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi here in the evening," he said.

Asked that Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee was not accompanying the NDA team, he said the TC general secretary Mukul Roy has joined the delegation here.

Advani is leading a nine-members NDA MPs team which include - Sushma Swaraj (BJP), S S Ahluwalia (BJP), S Yadav (JDU), Chandan Mitra (Ind), Anant Gethe (Shiv Sena), Sukhbir Singh Badal (Akali Dal), Brajkishore Tripathy (BJD) and  Mukul Roy (TC).
