KOCHI: Unperturbed by the scathing criticism for his on-the-field antics, paceman S Sreesanth says he plays the game with passion and adversity will make him a better bowler.
Sreesanth was the centre of controversy in the recent seven-match one-day series against Australia as his aggressive demeanour did not go down well with the visitors and captain Ricky Ponting, former Australian skipper Ian Chappell and ex-pacer Glenn McGrath criticised the Kerala bowler for his show of aggression.
Sreesanth, however, defended himself, saying he was keen to do well for the country and played the game passionately.
"I don't know what you mean by aggression. I am playing for my country and I want my team to do well. I love this game and I am playing with passion," he said.
"I am not worried about criticism. In fact, it helps one perform better," he said.
The 24-year-old seamer asserted that the Australian players' remarks about the new aggression of the Indian team could not demoralise the side.
"Team India is mentally strong and we are not worried. We are working hard and will perform well," he said.
About the forthcoming home series against Pakistan, Sreesanth said the arch-rivals would not be weaker without Inzamam-ul-Haq and India was ready for the challenge.
"Every team is strong and we are not really worried about any team. Team India is also well prepared to take on any side," he said.
"The series is going to be an exciting one. We are working hard and are confident to perform well," he added.
On his experience of having played against the arch-rivals, Sreesanth said, "I have played against Pakistan earlier and I will put in my very best to help the team win.
"I have been playing matches continuously and I am prepared for a go. Again I have played a couple of matches and I am in good nick," he said.
Sreesanth said he would try to utilise the series against Pakistan to excel as a bowler and entertain the fans.
"I am still learning and this is my second year in the international arena. I have got yet another opportunity to play for my country and I will not disappoint the millions of fans," he said.
