TDP delegation meets PM on M S Swaminathan Commission report

NEW DELHI: A TDP delegation led by its president Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to demand the implementation of the M S Swaminathan Commission report on agriculture.
    
"Farmers in the country, especially the paddy farmers are in a crisis. We have demanded that the Swaminathan Commission report be implemented at the earliest to save farmers from the crisis," Naidu said after meeting Singh.
    
Naidu claimed that 'more than 4,500 farmers have committed suicide due to indebtedness in Andhra Pradesh and blamed non remunerative prices of the last two years'.
    
The delegation also apprised Singh that cotton growers in the state were facing extreme difficulty in marketing their produce and the Cotton Corporation of India needs to intervene.
    
"The Prime Minister has assured us that the matter will be placed before the cabinet for it consideration," Naidu said.
