NEW DELHI: Apprehending a threat to their lives, Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi's newly-wed daughter and son-in-law on Monday moved the Delhi High Court seeking police protection.

The filmstar's daughter Srija (19), a student of chartered accountancy, had created a flutter by marrying Sirish Bharadwaj (22), her lover of four years, against the wishes of her family at a secret ceremony at an Arya Samaj temple in Hyderabad on October 17.

Counsel for the couple, Pinky Anand mentioned before a Division Bench of Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Khanna that the couple got legally married but they feared for their lives because Chiranjeevi was an influential person.

"The couple came to the capital after changing so many cars to save themselves," she said, seeking police protection for them.

She urged the court to hear the case on an urgent basis.

The Bench, taking her submission into account, fixed the matter for hearing at 2 pm today.

Breaking his silence on his younger daughter Srija's secret love marriage, Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi on Sunday had wished happiness for her. He, however, remained silent on whether he accepted the marriage.
