PATNA: Union Minister of state for human resources development MAA Fatmi has come under serious cloud following revelations by a criminal that the minister had given a supari (contract) to his gang for eliminating the deputy mayor of the Darbhanga Municipal Corporation, Bobby Khan. Fatmi is a Lok Sabha member from Darbhanga constituency in Bihar. He is a leader from Lalu Yadav-led RJD.
The Darbhanga police would soon be interrogating the minister in this connection. Quoting the senior police officers of Darbhanga, principal secretary (home) Afzal Amanullah told DNA that the Darbhanga police had arrested a notorious gang of criminals and in course of their interrogation, one of them revealed that the minister had given them a contract to kill the deputy mayor.
The police had recorded his confessional statement in presence of the SP and an executive magistrate. Further investigations were on to verify the authenticity of his statement. The police may also interrogate the minister to know his side of the story, Amanullah said.
Fatmi has charged chief minister Nitish Kumar with framing him in a false case to tarnish his image. On being contacted for his reaction to Fatmi’s charges, Nitish said that he came to know about this only when Fatmi spoke to him on the phone. “Let the probe be completed, the truth will come out itself,” he added.
Giving details of the sequence of events, he said Bobby khan had lodged a complaint with the local police on October 13 apprehending serious threat to his life from a criminal gang patronised by Fatmi. Then he was given body guards. The police carried out raids at the suspected hideouts and arrested six members of a gang while two others escaped.
The deputy mayor also had criminal antecedence and he used to be a hench man of Fatmi. But during the civic elections, he changed sides and became the deputy mayor.
