Action against Virk is political vendetta: K P S Gill

PUNE: Former Director General of Punjab Police K P S Gill has alleged that the action taken by the Prakash Singh Badal government against S S Virk, who cracked down on terrorists in the state, amounted to 'political vendetta.'

"If loyal and committed officers like former DGP Virk were subjected to harassment with fake allegations, no one would come forward to combat the menace of terrorism in the country," he said while speaking at a public meeting in support of Virk here last night.

The meeting held by 'Vande Mataram' organisation was also attended by Virk's son Pradip Virk as well as some former mayors of Pune.

Virk, a Maharashtra cadre IPS officer, had served in the city before his transfer to Punjab where he serves as DGP.

The former DGP, who was arrested in an alleged corruption case and faces charges in another case of disproportionate assets, is presently in Judicial Custody till October 22 and undergoing treatment in the PGI, Chandigarh.
