CHENNAI: While the Congress party had great respect for Lord Ram, there was nothing wrong in Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi expressing his views on the subject, newly appointed Congress observer for Tamil Nadu V Arun Kumar said on Sunday.

After holding a meeting of Congress MLAs and MPs at the party headquarters here, he said the BJP was using religious beliefs for political gains adding it could not claim ownership of Ram.

Terming Sunday's exercise as a family meeting, Arun Kumar said elections for office bearers would be held as early as possible.

He replied in the negative when asked if Congress workers wanted the party to be accommodated in the state government headed by the DMK.

On the absence of Union Ministers G K Vasan and Mani Shankar Aiyer, he said they had contacted him and explained the reasons for their absence.

On his approach to bring unity in TNCC, he said he would discuss party issues with all the workers and leaders, elicit their views and convey them to the Central leadership, which would take appropriate decisions.

Arun Kumar said he would hold three meetings every month to address organisational problems which he would follow.
