MUMBAI: Despite being reduced to nine men, Maneckji Cooper overcame PG Garodia 32-17 to book their title clash with Smt S Singhania in the ICSE Inter-School Basketball Championship at the Villa Theresa court here on Sunday.

The final will be held at the same venue on Monday.

Hit by viral fever, only nine of the 15-member squad could make it to the semis.

But Maneckji Cooper displayed much professionalism and played a gutsy game to eclipse the absence of their three strike players.

And it was Kunal Kanchan, who led the team from the front.

The shortest on the court, Kunal was in his elements. He not only handled the ball well, but also contributed 12 valuable points.

Karan Ghangiani also played well as he topped the individual score with 16 points.

According to Abraham Paulose, a former state player, Kunal is one of best upcoming players.

“He is playing against all odds. And yet he is playing his best. I am sure his performance makes many envy him,” he said.

Earlier, PG Garodia Ghatkopar defeated Hiranandani, Powai 18-14 to set up the title clash with Villa Theresa in the girls section. Mansi Bhavishi led the attack by netting the ball eight times in the game.
