KOLKATA: The Delhi-based radio jockey of a private FM radio channel could be arrested for his "derogatory and insulting" comments on Indian Idol Prashant Tamang which sparked protests in Darjeeling district of West Bengal, a senior police official said here on Friday.

"If necessary, the Radio jockey, who passed the comment, may be arrested," IGP (Law and Order), Raj Kanojia, said.

He said the radio jockey's comments had "hurt the sentiments of the people in the hills".
   
Kanojia said that an investigating team, headed by the Darjeeling Superintendent of Police, would leave for Delhi to take up the issue with the Delhi administration and the FM radio channel there.
   
Meanwhile, GNLF MLA Santa Chhetri met West Bengal Chief Secretary A K Deb and demanded an immediate ban on the FM channel and punishment for the radio jockey.
   
She said the Chief Secretary assured her that he would speak to Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry in this regard.
