CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Tuesday appealed to DMK activists and leaders of alliance parties to ignore provocative remarks by Sangh Parivar outfits on him.

If the remarks, aimed at provoking the DMK cadres and alliance leaders 'were taken very seriously', it would disturb public peace and hinder the project, he said in a statement here.

He asked the DMK workers and the alliance partners to focus on explaining to people about the conspiracy of 'religious chauvinists' against Sethusamudram project.

Whenever a chaotic situation arises, anti-social elements could indulge in anything they want to do and blame others for the consequences, he said adding the cadres should not give room for such tactics.

Some people were planning to incite communal passions, disturb law and order and indulge in acts of violence, he said adding they were trying to blame the Centre and state governments and cause disrepute as DMK and its allies were at the helm.

As the completion of the project would increase the popularity of DMK and Centre, people were trying to stall it using the reason of religious sentiments, he added.
