KOLKATA: Expressing great joy over India's victory in the Twenty20 World Cup final at the Wanderes, India's most successful skipper Sourav Ganguly said on Monday night he was confident of the team's success after it beat South Africa in the Super Eight stage.

"It's a great feeling. It's a matter of great joy, but when they managed to beat South Africa, I was sure that they would bring home the cup," Ganguly said, commenting on India's thrilling five-run win over Pakistan in the New Wanderers.

Asked to compare the M S Dhoni-led squad with the one he captained to the World Cup final in South Africa four years ago, Ganguly said "I think the present team is better."

Signalling Yuvraj Singh for special praise for his blitz knocks in the tournament, he said "I always expected great performances from Yuvraj, but hitting six sixes in one over was extraordinary. Such an occasion comes only once in a player's career."

On how he would rate Pakistan, who was scheduled to play a one day and Test series on Indian soil, Ganguly said "Twenty20 is a new format. Just because they lost, it doesn't mean that they are weak. They are a young side. They fought well."

To a question whether Twenty20 had the potential to leave behind the 50 over game and the Tests matches, Ganguly said, "It's too early to say. But people are liking it. So we must accept Twenty20 cricket."
