VSNL to provide internet service to UK firm

MUMBAI: Telecommunications and internet service provider, Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) on Monday said it has been selected by UK-based Janet for providing high bandwidth global internet access for education and research institutions across that country.

Janet, which connects UK's leading education and research organisations, has entered into a multiple year agreement with the domestic telecommunications major, the Tata Group company said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

"We chose VSNL for its ability to offer truly global IP services, which helps dynamic and growing companies manage their IT systems," Janet Head of Operations Tim Kidd said.

The increased capacity would allow Janet to ensure that the education and research community can communicate effectively, with the highest quality internet experience available in the market, Kidd added.

Shares of VSNL closed at Rs 430.10, up 1.79 per cent on the BSE.
