LONDON: A person was detained by Royal Protection Officers after being spotted brandishing a fake gun near a chopper used by Prince Edward during a visit to a factory in Britain, a police officer said.

He was later freed without charge after a ticking off.  "A man was acting suspiciously. He was spoken to but no further action is being taken," 'The Sun' reported here on Monday, quoting the police officer as saying.

However, the 43-year-old Earl of Wessex, who went to Bridgnorth to tour a automobile factory, was unaware of the drama, the British tabloid said.

"It was some guy who thought it would be fun to walk around with a pretend gun," a spokesman for the auto firm, Grainger and Worrall, was quoted as saying.
