'Mysterious' woman loots ex-MLA's wife

CHENNAI: In a shocking incident, a woman in salwar kameez and wearing a helmet looted 100 sovereign gold jewellery and Rs one lakh in cash from the house of a PMK Member and Former MLA at Kodambakkam Area of the city last evening.

The incident at the house of Former Cheyyar MLA Ulagaratchagan caused panic in the area.

The politician's 47-year-old wife Ambika was alone in the house when the woman pushed and gagged her and ransacked the almirah before decamping with the booty.

The moment Ambika opened the door on hearing the bell, the woman barged her way into the house, bolted it from inside.

Even as Ambika lost consciousness, the woman intruder emptied the almirah.

"It all happened in a flash", Ambika later said.

Hearing her cries, the neighbours came to her rescue. But by that time, the woman had made good her escape.

Three special teams have been formed and a search launched for the mysterious woman.
