NASHIK: The security at Shirdi and Trimbakeshwar temples has been beefed up after police and intelligence agencies rated the threat perception from terrorits as alarmingly high for the two temples.

Talking about this, Inspector General of Police (range) PK Jain said at a Press conference in Shirdi, these places of religous significance are under serious threat from terrorists.

“After unsuccessful attempts of disturbing peace at Malegaon, Hyderabad and Hazartbal, the terrorists now seem to be targetting places of Hindu’s worship,” Jain said.

As per intelligence agencies’ assessment, terrorist groups could target religious places like Shirdi and Trimbakeshwar during the festive season of Navratri and Diwali, he said.

“The central intelligence agencies have informed that the terrorists have plans to attack Shirdi or Trimbakeshwar during Navratri or Diwali. So, people need to remain cautious and also calm,” he added.

He also informed that CCTVs and scanners will soon be installed at Shirdi. Meanwhile, the Trimbakeshwar temple management has called an emergency meeting of all concerned authorities including police officials to discuss the modalities of the security there.

“We have taken sufficient care to address the issue. The police vigil has been increased along with the temple security,” said the manager of the Trimbakeshwar trust.

Out of the four doors at the temple, only one door facing north will be kept open throughout the day. Locals will be allowed to enter from the door from 5am to 10am and 6pm to 10pm every day. Metal detectors will be placed on all the doors being used. Also people entering the temple will be thoroughly checked.

“People of Trimbakeshwar have been co-operative and all the activities of the temple are being carried out as normal,” he said.
