SILIGURI: Teachers of Jalpaiguri Marwari Balika Vidyalaya have closed the school bringing charges of corruption and financial offences against its teacher-in-charge and administrator on Wednesday.

The teachers also lodged a formal complaint against them to the District Inspector of Jalpaiguri, Bipin Bihari Bera.

Bera told reporters that he would take steps on the basis of the written complaint filed by the teachers.

The teachers in their complaint alleged that the administrator, Barsali Mandal and the teacher-in-charge, Laxmi Bagchi used to draw an inflated amount as stipend for SC/ST students.

A teacher, B. Chakraborty said that the duo had drawn RS.90,000 as SC/ST stipend in 2004 and actually distributed only Rs 8,000 rupees.

They also forced the beneficiaries to sign papers five to six times to adjust the excess amount, she alleged.

The teachers also raised voice against misappropriation of funds collected as admission and registration fees from the students. The teachers said that the school would be reopened only after action was taken against the accused persons.

The administrator could not be contacted as she was out of station. The teacher in charge, Bagchi when contacted said that she would not comment anything without consulting the administrator.
